Uh Oh, The Summer Nights
Characters: anyone at the party
Date: August 31, 7pm onward
Rating/Warnings: PG-13 tops, please!
Summary: RECOVERjoy has prepared a party for you! Isn't that exciting?
The entire park is lit up with paper lanterns in shades of orange and yellow; there are even some floating serenely in the fountain. Music filters through the air, the style and tempo changing often. The robots you should by now be used to are moving about the area keeping the refreshments table stocked and cleaning up any messes that might appear. This is a party, after all.
As for those points, well, you're sure to get some if you earn them yourself. Don't worry, RECOVERjoy has provided a few ways for you to start collecting.

He's occupied a small area where the rings were laid out, and is already playing against his willing cohort, Meredith.
But that doesn't mean he's doing it...correctly. Some darts have lodged their way into nearby trees, and maybe a few into the lawn itself, away from the rings. It looks like Elijah is trying the best he can (he actually looks PRETTY PLEASED with himself) but he's actually doing a really crappy job.
And sadly, if you happen to be anywhere near his general area, you're about to be hit.
(questions??) ]
+10 for scaring the shit out of mikado. congrats.
He's in direct firing (throwing is probably the right word, actually) range, unfortunately for him. The first dart skims past the back of his head - the fact that it didn't take his hair with it is probably a miracle - and the next lands in his line of sight as it flies in front of him to hit a tree.
The third is heading straight for his head, and Mikado only manages to scarcely dodge. Who the hell is stupid enough to--
He's too busy trying to pull himself back together to reprimand the culprit for his recklessness, but when he does manage to bring himself around.. ]
Wh-- what in the world?!
yes perfect
He hits it, finally. And stands up straight, just a little bit proud of himself- meanwhile surveying the damage of the field around them. Meredith makes something of a sideways look, and glances to Elijah, and snorts. He looks like he's teasing him.. but he's really just finding his whole ACT a little ridiculous. ]
Oh. [ And there was one now... Sorry, Mikado all you get is a very UNAPOLOGETIC stare from Meredith. ]
NO IM SORRY
Oh, I'm so sorry! [Elijah's brows raise, mostly out of sheer disbelief that...Mikado actually dodged all those. Very talented, indeed!
But he does look severely apologetic, raising a hand as if to extend it to the boy, but carefully pulls it back into a contemplative chin rest.] Goodness, I really did space out there, didn't I? If I may express my apologies...[Well...he did seem to be in one piece still, so...]
Ah, were you playing on your own? [Trying...to make amends..!]
wow pop off douchebags
His eyes dart from Elijah to Meredith at uneven intervals-- are they accomplices? Are they here to kill me? The perpetrator's somewhat heartfelt apology manages to convince him that, for the most part, they aren't here to do the latter. They aren't horrible people.
Elijah's just horrible at lawn darts, that's all. ]
I-It's okay, really..
[ His palms start to sweat at his sides. He's not good with this, and Meredith is giving him this really bad look. He can't stand to look at either of them for little more than a second. ]
Do you even.. well, know how to play? [ Because your aim sucks, Elijah. Sucks terribly. ]
no subject
Meredith almost feels bad because Mikado is awfully timid despite his.. remark. But he's figured Elijah has got this as usual and there's really not much Meredith can say anyway- he wasn't the best actor.
He's keeping his distance, in fact, and looks away to try another dart at the board. After all, it was... Elijah who almost hit poor Mikado. ]
He might not, but how about a game? [ Slowly. Now Meredith looks apologetic, if only through a small but sincere smile. ]
mikado dont b like that we're yer FRIENDS
Oh! [He catches that, Meredith!! Elijah grins in response, and nods widely.] That's a very good idea, Meredith! But of course, only if you're willing...
Wait, what am I saying...we haven't even been introduced yet. [His hands instantly tug on his tie, as if to compose himself.] I'm Mr. Gabriel, and this is Meredith.
no subject
A-ah, no-- it's fine.. I'm okay with watching. [ Watching from a considerable distance away from Elijah, thank you.
If the tension isn't any worse, it becomes really hard for him to say anything at all because the risk that he might provoke either of the two looms. And then there's the subject of their weird names-- Mikado's not familiar with western names, but.. Meredith? Isn't that a girl's name?
He's careful not to touch on that-- Meredith doesn't miss his targets, it seems, and he's not willing to take any chances. ]
Mikado.. um, Ryuugamine Mikado. I-It's nice to meet you.
How are you supposed to.. [ 'Play' seems like the wrong word in this instance. ] .. do what you're doing?
no subject
[ Less thoughtfully and more just curious. Was RECOVERjoy a special thing over there...?
Meredith looks Mikado over- and it's innocent enough because he just can't pinpoint what his answer really was. ]
no subject
I was beginning to wonder that myself! At least until I spent a few days here, haha.
Ah, but yes, it isn't that difficult! [Even though Elijah missed....his targets...] If you've ever played Fives before then I'm sure you'll see the similarities! [No mind if Mikado HASN'T played Fives because Elijah apparently hasn't taken no for an answer.
Time to clamp a hand over Mikado's shoulder and lead him towards the rings!] Go ahead and try once! Unlike me, I'm sure you'll hit something.
no subject
Shit, this isn't good. Amongst his trail of thought, he's only barely noticed that Elijah's taken his shoulder hostage. He only wants to watch, dammit! ]
Eh? Eh?! Eh?!
[ That should tell them both that he hasn't ever played Fives-- let alone come into contact with darts. If Elijah's supposedly the worst, then he's met his match.
"No, I don't want to play," doesn't seem like an acceptable answer here. The thought of having to take hold of something that looks so dangerous and weapon-y makes his stomach flip-- he's fearing for the worst. He swallows; he (reluctantly) gets himself a dart with a shaky hand; he closes his eyes, then throws.
May the lawn dart gods be with him. ]
no subject
But then the god awful aim of this guy caught his attention, so he meandered on over to check out what his deal was-- ]
Shit!
[ THAT WAS A DART THAT JUST FLEW PAST HIS HEAD. ]
What the hell, man!? If you can't aim, stop playing! You're gonna' take out an eye, or worse!
no subject
Oh.. he's seen him before. That's right, he's the kid he was expected to room with. He never did catch his name.
But he did remember his voice. ]
You're that kid from Room 206. [ Thoughtfully. And absolutely nothing to comment about the fact Elijah almost nicked him. ]
no subject
[Elijah returns his line of vision towards Kanji's direction and...observes. He supposes after spending a few weeks here he would get used to the way people dressed....but not. Just yet.]
Oh, was that what I was about to do? [Elijah laughs! Kindly, of course...and walks over to Kanji.] Well, at least I didn't take anything of yours out. Still, I'm terribly sorry!
May I presume you're Meredith's roommate? [Something in Elijah's smile means well, and is almost inviting.]
no subject
Er.. yeah, that's me. Meredith, right? [ To him, that's a girl's name. And he was insecure about his femininity. Then there's this other jackass that's totally passing off nearly poking his eye out. And he's just smiling like everything's totally cool!
Nope. Totally setting off Kanji's douche-dar. ]
T'ch, don't bother apologizing. Just don't do it again, got it? [ He's at least trying to be a better man, if only for his deceased father. ] Yeah, we're roommates, but he's never around. But hey, neither am I. Layin' in your room all damn day won't get you anywhere, y'know?
I'm Kanji. Who are you?
no subject
Yes.
[ Meredith only gives Kanji a simple confirming nod and decides to watch him carefully for the remained of their... lecture. Then again he's not sure what he expected when Elijah was plotting to shoot people with sharp objects.
Speaking of, Meredith glances between Kanji and Elijah before taking a step closer to his original throwing spot- and nearly misses the center. ]
I'm not sure how they expected anyone to stay in those rooms. [ Offhandedly. But so far he's running on..........no sleep... and that wasn't exactly easy for him. ]
no subject
I'm Mr. Gabriel, Meredith's long-standing associate. [He smiles just a bit wider.] And I assure you I won't be doing that again. [Although whatever 'that' may be is anyone's guess....]
I can't say I blame you for wanting to roam instead of being caged in a cooped up apartment. This party does somewhat resemble something that should be festive. [A light chuckle.] If it's agreeable with you, perhaps you could join Meredith and I in a quick game? I'll be sure to aim this time!
no subject
Seriously, it was like every word that came out of their mouths was mocking him. ]
Nice t'meet you, then. Uh.. I don't know if I'm any good at darts, actually. I don't really play...
no subject
Actually, [ Meredith hands Elijah the two darts he was holding in his hand. ] I'll be right back, Elijah.
[ And he nods at Kanji before stepping off in the direction of the refreshments. (PRESUMABLY) ]
no subject
In fact...[Elijah attempts to laugh...but but the sound wilts, and he has to clear his throat to cover up his obvious embarrassment.] I'm not very good at darts in general, although I'm guessing this would be easier. All you have to do is hit inside the rings, right?
[Elijah offers Kanji one of the darts.] There's more back there, if you need them. I'll be honest...you don't seem the type to back out at an opportune moment.
no subject
Oh, this other guy is talking to him. He takes the dart and eyes the targets with a somewhat disdainful look. Elijah's actually right about Kanji's inability to refuse a challenge, but... He doesn't like making a complete idiot of himself either.
It takes just a moment to take aim, and then the dart is soaring through the air-- oh. It... misses, but HEY! You made the dart fly just over the target. Not bad compared to the jackass next to him. ]
... Huh. That wasn't so bad, right? [ Before he can stop himself, Kanji's looking over at Elijah for feedback. ]
no subject
He sighs and rounds the corner, carefully removing the DARTS he's concealed in his coat pocket. Meredith settles himself behind a rather helpful bush and stops. This whole plan was incredibly... juvenile... why was he even doing this again they could do so much better. Oh well... He takes in a slow breath and aims to shoot right at Kanji's hip. ]
no subject
[Elijah does look pretty invested in this game too, surprisingly enough...but that just may be due to the fact that he's trying to make Kanji forget that Meredith was around...or that he's taking a while.
He can't have Kanji looking anywhere else- Meredith is most likely somewhere now, where he has a good view of them both. And Elijah is being just a little extra careful about where he stands. He doesn't want to get...hit. The thought of that is suddenly incredibly ironic and too funny and Elijah bites his cheek to keep from laughing. He is such a weirdo.
Elijah takes another dart, and aims along with Kanji.] After you!
no subject
Now if he could just try to hit the-- ]
OW!! MOTHER FUCKER.
[ His bout of profanity spilled from his mouth before he could even stop himself. The dart landed in his hip, dangerously close to his butt. Kanji yanked it out and glared around for the culprit, rather than check for any possible bleeding. ]
Who the fuck threw that!?
