Summary: Arrivals.
You want happiness. A company called RECOVERjoy has offered it to you, so you've signed up with them. Gaining happiness can't hurt, right?

Suddenly you're in a room, an apartment, with three other beds and unfamiliar faces. This is your assigned room, and it's quite crowded. You don't get much of a chance to think as your phone beeps--it's not your phone, maybe you've never had a phone, but there's one in your hand so you check it. It's a smart phone, nothing special about it, but now you've received a text from RECOVERjoy.

Welcome to Joywick! We're so happy to have you!

You've arrived in your assigned room, we hope you like it! Don't worry, you can move out once you've collected enough joypoints. Speaking of, if you'd like to check your balance, there's a special application that tracks it for you right on your phone! Handy, right?

... Did you check? If you did, you'll notice you have no joypoints. But don't despair! We're giving you a special mission. Make three (3) friends and get 200 joypoints! Gee, that's easy! Of course, we can't put a level on something like friendship, so just get to know people. Don't miss out on these easy points! We'll give you more information about joypoints once you're done.

Well, you probably want more joypoints either way. Here's how! Look for another person. I bet they look fairly happy, right? Why are they happier than you? Because they've got the joypoints you need! The only way to get those joypoints is to steal theirs. How? Take their happiness away. It's easy! Maybe a rumor here, an injury there... but if you want the big points, be creative!

[ Picture this: you are an awkward fifteen year old who can't interact with other people on a level that doesn't make them think you're a total freak. Then imagine that you have problems with eye contact and dealing with more than one person at the same time. Are you still with me? Good. Then imagine you're being forced to share a room with people - perhaps multiple people!? - you have never met.

Yeah. That's Tsurubami's life right now. So he's just going to sit here in Room 203 in perfect silence - making the exact face in this icon - while he waits for his roomies to show up. When they finally do show up, he doesn't even give them a chance to speak first. Don't they say he who speaks first wins, or something? ]

Ah, let's not beat around the bush. This is a terrible place to live, right?

[ claudia's a little taken aback at the speed with which tsurubami speaks - she's barely even gotten a step through the door, so she frowns and furrows her brow a bit looking at him. ]

Since we're being honest, I'm not in this for it being a nice place to live. I'm in it so I have a nice place to live to go back to.

But I've lived in worse. [ there's a shrug as she throws her bag down on one of the other empty beds and sits on it, propping her hands on her knees to stare him down. trouble making eye contact? she has none. ] It could be worse.

[ Being stared at. Wow. Uncomfortable. But as long as he does his very best not to look Claudia in the eye - and he has had plenty of practice - then he should be able to hold up, at least until the introductions are over. That doesn't stop him from shifting nervously, though. ]

You want a nice place to live? That's a noble goal. Just a touch selfish, but not so much that it causes a problem for other people, right? It's so mundane heroic that it's almost admirable. Ah, if only everyone could have such aspirations.

[ He thinks these things he says make sense. Most of the time he just opens his mouth and lets words fall out. ]

[ she actually can't help but snort a bit at the ramble of words. the idea that her idea of a nice place to live is mundane, the idea that the warehouse could be anything close to mundane is enough to make her shake her head, roll in her lips to regain control. ]

It's not just for me. [ another laugh, a bit more bitter this time. ] It's anything but for me. [ saving steve, maybe, yeah, that's pretty selfish. but the world needed hope, needed the warehouse. ] After that, I'd assume your goals are much more community-minded. Saving orphans? Keeping Florida from flooding? Restoring hope to the world?

[ Well. There's no way he can admit his goal is to have a wonderful animated adaptation of his favourite manga. Not after those examples, at the very least. And certainly not since his favourite manga is the full-of-fanservice To Love-Ru Darkness, which he denies even knowing about whenever the subject is brought up. ]

What? No way! I want to see my late father one last time, and throw a birthday party my friends will never forget.

[ Those two things are things he would like, but one of them is just impossible.

And his dead father is still a mysterious plot point back home. ]

[ she might actually give him props for that. maybe a weird look, but props. everyone's got a goal, no matter how weird. ]

Only once? Why not completely undo it? From what they want us to believe, RECOVERjoy's got that power. Though you really shouldn't need help throwing a party no one'll forget. Not from these people, anyways.
